As part of a university thesis, Max Krohmer developed a concept for a control armrest with a focus on industrialized eco design at elobau. The newly conceived control armrest is a design and material study that is devised according to the principles of the circular economy through the design as well as the development and manufacturing process. It provides an outlook on future, more sustainable products that focus on a more responsible use of resources and the environment.
With regards to the recycling process, the number of materials used is kept as low as possible. In addition, they can be separated from each other quickly and easily and screw connections are largely dispensed with. The stainless-steel serves as a frame and as a carrier for the Karuun components. The Karuun, in turn, accommodates the controls and protects the electronics. The design is to be rethought with the capabilities of the materials used.
The study received the distinction “Special Mention” in the category “Excellence in Business to Business” at the “German Innovation Award”. Stefan Höß, Head of Sustainable Product Development at elobau, and Max Krohmer, Developer of Sustainable Product Development, travelled to Berlin for the award ceremony and were happy to receive the award on May 23, 2023 at the Futurium (House of Futures).
“Special Mention” awards are given to those innovations which convince through well thought-out partial aspects, original approaches or experienced detailed solutions.
The German Innovation Awards honour innovative achievements that break new ground through their added value. These may be products as well as services and they may come from very different industries, but the focus is always on the user experience: projects that improve our lives and contribute to a better future. The German Innovation Awards offer these outstanding innovations a valuable platform by making them visible to a broad audience. Thus, the awards contribute to their successful positioning on the market.
